Mandarin Oriental Punta Negra

MANDARIN ORIENTAL MAJORQUE

PUNTA NEGRA

Set within a three-hectare coastal estate on Mallorca’s southwest coast, Mandarin Oriental Punta Negra overlooks two secluded coves, with Mediterranean gardens stretching towards the sea. First opened in 1966, the hotel begins a new chapter with interiors by Laura Gonzalez.

Inspired by the soul of the island, Laura Gonzalez conceived a journey through colour, light and nature. Her work encompasses the rooms and suites, casitas, common spaces, pools, wellness and spa areas, as well as two restaurants. Mallorca’s craft traditions and artistic heritage inform the choice of materials, patterns and furnishings, reflecting the warmth of the island and its distinctive Mediterranean light.

Starting with the Lobby, Laura Gonzalez commissioned Spanish artist Rafael Uriegas to create a hand-painted fresco capturing the island’s vibrancy and organic shapes. Its rich colours and flowing forms introduce the connection to nature and art that will follow throughout the whole project.

THE SPA

Conceived as a holistic retreat, the spa combines organic forms, soft light and a palette drawn from the island’s landscape. Around the indoor pool, tiles in shades of deep green and turquoise recall the Mediterranean, set against warm ivory surfaces and sculpted wall reliefs by artist Carla Galmés. Curved alcoves and a planted courtyard lend intimacy to the relaxation areas, while honey and amber tones bring warmth to the treatment rooms. Throughout, the gentle contours and tactile finishes create a quiet, enveloping atmosphere, invit

PUNTA NEGRA SUITES

For the suites, Laura Gonzalez wanted to create spaces that feel personal, comfortable and closely connected to the island, with the warmth and familiarity of a private home. Ceramics and artworks give each space its own character, while warm woods, woven fibres and pale stone complement the richly textured upholstery. Patterned cushions and curtains add colour and softness. Paintings and sculptural objects find their place in wall niches and on tables, as pieces might be collected and lived with over time. Every detail is considered, from the curve of a headboard to the carved base of a dining table.

In other suites, ochre, terracotta and soft yellow bring a sunnier warmth to the interiors. Patterned fabrics sit against ivory walls, while sculptural tables, slender wooden lamps and shelving with rope-like supports add a playful touch. Sunlight draws out the relief of textured surfaces and the grain of the wood, lending depth to the rooms as the day progresses.
